things to remember while making work:
Number eleven: Rigor
Two of the synonyms for rigor listed in the thesaurus are Conscientiousness and Meticulousness.
I'm looking for rigorous collaborators
I'm looking to make work rigorously
I feel like we as a class should increase our level of rigor.
If anyone reads this, please post a comment. Do you agree? Disagree? What are your thoughts about our level of rigor?
I look forward to having the discussion.
I agree with your comments however I feel that our rigour as a class will increase naturally next term. My reasoning for this is that the work we have been doing for the practitioner study does not develop beyond the end of week performance. Therefore we have to be practical about how much energy we can use on these mini projects as if we devote all of our time to them other areas of our study will suffer. However next term we have the opportunity to concentrate on certain areas of study and we will have the time and resources to rigorously study them. I think sometimes when you are working on many projects, like we are at the moment, you have to be able to pace yourself so that you can time manage and make sure you spread your energy out evenly. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteI think as a class our rigour will increase naturally next term as we will have the time and resources. At the moment we are being exposed to a lot of things and so I feel the best way to cope is to know how to manage your time and energy. For example the practitioner study unit's projects never develop from the end of the week performance so you have to be realistic about how rigorously you can approach the task. This does not mean there is no point in working hard just that you have to be realistic about how much time and energy you can devote to a task. Whereas next term we will have the opportunity to get into a project with great rigour as there will be more time set aside for it? what do you think?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely I agree with you, Jamie. Rigour is key to making good work and I find that it also makes work really satisfying.
ReplyDeleteA requirement of rigour is being present.
Jamie,
ReplyDeletewell written stuff, it seems to me that you have all the cards on the table and the right frame of mind to take the laboratory work an extra mile.
It's the first time I'm reading your blog, but I've always been fascinated by your inquisitive mind and all the relevant questions you always ask.
About the 24th hours comment, once again, I agree with you, risks exposes humanity beautifully, but I also believe that without a proper "grounding" you can't fire your exposures; In easier terms: unless feeded with with courage and an extreme self confidence, stuff such as going out there on the last minute, can't happen at all.
I trust that it's just about what the individual already know, trust it and take it out there on the spot bravely and not even minimally pretending to rehearse a bit, it is a must that nothing has to be pre-planned..there's no time for that.
I guess very similar to what you've already mentioned on your blog, but just though I wanted to share this with you?
Enjoy the rest of your Holiday Jamie,
Claudio
